Study on Immunoglobulins in Sera of Mothers and Their New Born Babies

Abstract
With the development of imn unochemical methods for the analysis of serum proteins, quantitative determination of serum immune globulin levels has been made in recent years and there are numerous reports on the immunoglobulin level in various diseases.
The present study was to determine the levels of immunoglobulins in sera of mothers and their new born babies.
Immunoglobulins in sera of 92 mothers, their new born babies and as a control group 10 non-pregnant women were quantitated by the capillary tube technique (Oudin¢¥ s capillary tube test modified by Lim). The following results were obtained:
1. The levels of IgG, IgM and IgA in control group were:
IgG; 1980¡¾156. 4 mg/100ml (range 1720^2300 nlg/l00m1)
IgM; 89.6¡¾16.5 ing/100ml (range 64.5^107 mg/100ml)
IgA; 308.5¡¾117.9 nag/100A (range 118^¢¥475 mg/100ml)
2. The levels of IgG, IgM and IgA in mothers were:
IgG; 1164¡¾141.0 mg,/100ml (range 710^2075 mg/100ml)
igM; 84¡¾30.8 mg/100.111 (range 31.4-152 mg/100ml)
IgA; 292¡¾82.3 mg/100ml (range 144-552 mg/100ml)
In the mother group, the level of IgG was significantly lower than that of control group(p <0.01), but no significant change has been observed in the levels of IgM and IgA between the both group (0. 4>P>0.3, 0.7>p>0.6).
3. The levels of IgG, IgM and IgA in cord serum were:
IgG; 1977¡¾596.4 mg/100-nl (range 960^3150 mg/100ml)
IgM; 16.5¡¾2.4 mg/100:ri (range 14.1^¢¥27.2 mg/100.nl)
IgA; 6.3¡¾8.9 mg/100m1 (range 0-33 mg/1001111)
1) The level of IgG in cord serum was higher than that of mother¢¥s (p2) In all specimens of cord serum, a significant quantity of IgM was found and the level was one fifth to one sixth of control group and mother¢¥s.
3) Only in one third of specimens.. of cord serum, there was a traceable amount of IgA and it was one forty-sixth to one forty-ninth of control group and mother¢¥s level.
